Stories about families that
we have helped ...
Edna's Story ...
Edna is 96 years
young and still a sophisticated lady.
Edna was living in her own unit by the water but was finding it
increasingly difficult to live independently.
Edna was sometimes forgetting
to take her medication, skipping meals and was having problems with basic chores
around her unit.
Edna's supportive son and daughter-in-law lived at least 1 hours
drive from their cherished Mother. The trip down the highway to
see Edna had always taken time in the past, but now that Edna
was requiring more care, the drive seemed to take an eternity.
There was increasing apprehension about what they would find when
they arrived on Mother's doorstep.
Edna's son and daughter-in law approached Aged Care Connect to
help recommend a solution to their concerns and to provide practical assistance
to the family during the transition.
After a family consultation to understand the requirements, the
placement consultant from Aged Care Connect recommmended a number
of options but informed the family about a new low care facility
that had recently opened in an adjoining suburb.
After arranging and
attending a tour of the new facility the family agreed that this was indeed the
best solution out of the number of alternatives presented and they were anxious
to secure Edna a placement at the facility. The Aged Care Connect consultant did
all the work for the family.
A few short weeks went by and Edna moved into the new low care
facility and immediately made friends with the other residents.
Edna now appreciates the professionally trained staff
who monitor and administer her medications, the chores are now someone elses problem
and Edna has a number of activities that she participates in with her new friends.
Edna's
son and daughter-in-law have gained significant peace of mind knowing that Edna
is now only five minutes away in a caring environment and in surroundings befitting
their wonderful Mother. They enjoy visiting Edna and they were visiting more frequently.
Last
week, Edna's son referred one of his business friends, who needed similiar placement
assistance, to Aged Care Connect.
