Templestowe Grange is a 71 bed Commonwealth
Funded "Extra Services" Aged Care Facility which caters for residents
with High Level care needs. We opened our doors to our first resident
on the Victorian Queen's Birthday Public Holiday, June 2001. The
building has been certified and we achieved Accreditation for
three years in December 2001 and again in November 2004.
Templestowe Grange provides individualised quality care. Our team
of staff is friendly, helpful, professional and willing to provide
an optimal level of service.
Staff members at Templestowe Grange regard family as co-carers
of residents. Family involvement and feedback is paramount in
enhancing the residents' quality of life.
Templestowe Grange aims to facilitate a smooth transition from
a resident's former 'home' by providing lifestyle choices.
Templestowe Grange aims to promote a sense of community where
the input and participation of residents, relatives and the local
and broader community are sought and valued. All areas are supported
by 24 hour nursing staff and daily domestic staff.
Templestowe Grange is a privately owned and operated facility.
Ongoing funding is provided by Commonwealth Government subsidies
as well as resident contributions.
Description of Facilities
In design Templestowe Grange is a unique facility providing the
residents a high level of individualised accommodation. In addition
to this, the care and service for residents and their family and
friends aims to achieve a living environment which ensures privacy,
dignity, comfort and safety at all times.
The building is modern, with spacious, light and airy living and
dining areas. Accommodation at Templestowe Grange comprises 71
private bedrooms with en suites. Three rooms have the ability
to be used for couples, with adjoining rooms and inter connecting
doors.
There are several lounge areas throughout the facility, for residents
to benefit from integrating with other residents as desired including
those that require constant staff contact and supervision. There
are lounge areas for visitors to help themselves to tea and coffee
each time they visit.
The facility is secure, the front door is coded and there are
gates on the perimeter of the building to provide safety and security
for our residents. The outside areas are paved and concreted to
provide easy accessibility for our residents when walking or being
wheeled outside. Tranquil courtyards and lush gardens provide
safe, relaxing and pleasant outdoor garden areas for residents
to enjoy.
Each resident room is furnished with electric high / low beds,
bedside locker (one drawer is lockable), a comfortable armchair,
an over bed table and wardrobe. The décor has been designed by
a professional Interior Designer and is attractive with quality
fittings and furnishings.
Residents are encouraged to bring in some of their cherished possessions
to provide familiar surroundings and a sense of belonging right
from the time of admission. Favourite photographs, ornaments,
paintings and tapestry adorn the residents' rooms and favourite
pieces of furniture make their rooms very homely and personal.
A beautifully appointed private dining room is also available
for residents and families to be able to share meals, birthdays
and other special occasions.
A piano, large screen TV with surround sound, Foxtel, DVD's and
video compliment the lounges and provide alternative entertainment.
We also have a library with large-print books available, as well
as our Internet café, to ensure that interstate and overseas relatives
are able to stay in touch.
A visiting hairdresser and beauty therapist are also available
for a nominated fee.
Our physiotherapy room gives our residents the opportunity for
maintaining their mobility and independence, or to just keep up
with their normal exercise program. Our physiotherapist and occupational
therapist will help with this.
In order to make our residents welcome and to provide a happy
routine, we also have planned and structured activities every
day. These will be organised by the allied health team. Many activities
will be based on the resident's requests but will also include
outings in our bus, concerts, pet therapy, art therapy, videos
and music therapy. We also ensure that our residents maintain
contact with any community groups that they may be involved with.
Pets can play a huge part in many people's lives. In all of our
Huon Health facilities, we have a variety of resident and visiting
pets as well as our Pet Therapist. We believe that pets help people
to build rapport with emotionally safe, non-threatening communication.
Pet therapy also stimulates the feeling of self-acceptance, while
providing entertainment and encouraging socialisation.

Worksafe Victoria Award
Congratulations to Templestowe Grange
Templestowe Grange initiated a strategic OHS program (known
as 'Safety First'), incorporating industry standard and best
practice manual handling systems for the transfers of the facility's
residents.
To combat the risks associated with manual handling, the facility's
management and staff developed a systematic safety strategy,
including policies on handling, comprehensive risk assessments,
training and purchasing ergonomic equipment.
The 'no lift' approach has been implemented in relation to all
manual handling systems in the facility, not just patient handling.
Well done to the staff at Templestowe Grange!
